April was a busy month for the PGCMLS Foundation. Hundreds of donors in Prince George’s County donated to support our libraries. With the Spring Forward Matching Gift Challenge set at $14,000, donors raised $14,675 within one month. This means all the gifts made will be met 1:1 thanks to an anonymous donor.

This huge act of generosity was made by library cardholders, staff, board members, and all the people who LOVE our libraries. The donations will support the 19 branch libraries with small and large projects.

Here is what the donations are going towards:

— Over 50 new e-books were purchased for the digital collection on Overdrive.

— Expanded marketing for the Books from Birth program so more children will receive free books directly mailed to their homes each month.

— Additional staff to host the PGCMLS Vaccine Hunter Hotline. In the first week, over 470 people called and matched with appointments.

— Older adults are receiving online training on how to write a resume and how to use LinkedIn to find a new job or side hustle.

— Over 50 new books were purchased on how to find a job, write a resume, and how to start a small business.

— Students in the Oxon Hill area have been receiving online, afterschool tutoring thanks to the Oxon Hill Achievers.

— PGCMLS is expanding the D.R.E.A.M. Lab at the Fairmount Heights Branch Library. Additional space, computers, and equipment will be available in late summer.

Thanks to everyone who participated. When we work together as a community, we can do great things.
